  Artist Statement

My experience with oils began when I attended Monterey Art School in California and tutored with several well-known teaching artists in the Carmel area. I continued my art education at Jacksonville University, and I have participated in numerous workshops conducted by Karen Galleher in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. Karen's work and inspiration have been an influence on my primary style, which is impressionism.

I am drawn to painting the lush, bucolic scenes that I've seen in Italy and France, as well as other countries, and my goal in painting them is to create a sense of emotion and the celebration of color. My paintings are more about color than the interpretation of the scene.

Works of mine have shown in Virginia at Gallery Without Walls, Art in the Workplace, the Fairfax Government Center, River Farm, American Horticultural Society, numerous regional libraries, and the Snyder and Thompson Community Centers in Kingstowne, VA. I was a member of the Springfield Art Guild, the Arts Council of Fairfax County, and I am past President of the Kingstowne Area Artists.

In the 28 years I lived in Kingstowne, VA, I showed works at River Farm, the  American Horticultural Society, and many local and regional venues.  I served 6 years as President of the Kingstowne Area Artists Association.  In 2014 we retired to Chula Vista, CA.  Since then, I have joined the Chula Vista Art Guild, South Bayfront Artists and the East County Art Association Gallery.  I have also been represented in the past few years by Zanadu's online Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizonia.  I would welcome e-mail, text or phone calls regarding my work.
